Gladmat food & fun has been running for a few years now, and the concept is delightfully simple: bring in guest chefs from standout restaurants around the country to Stavanger. This year, we set our sights on SEID, who welcomed the Birkir Freyr from Brasa and Leó Snæfeld from Jungle — the Icelandic connection is almost certainly no coincidence given that owner and chef Siggi is behind it all! If you want to read about our very first visit, please check out this review!

We've visited Seid before and it never disappoints. Perched at the top of K8, the views over the city are nothing short of magical, and the cocktail bar is an absolute gem. With a terrace opening up for summer drinks soon, this place is only getting better. We kicked off the evening with a drink at the bar, where the Leó Snæfeld worked his magic and shook up a Bananarama for me — as someone raised on 80s pop and with a love of banana, this cocktail was pure joy in a glass.

The set Food & Fun menu opened strong with smoked halibut in a ceviche style — properly delicious and a beautiful way to set the tone. Paired with a Japanese white wine called Grace Koshu which was pleasant if not mind-blowing. Things stepped up a notch with a Riesling Kabinett from Weingut Heiligenblut — gorgeous, though I'll admit I'm a Riesling fan at the best of times. The grilled knutekål (kohlrabi) with citrus tofu emulsion was a refined and satisfying vegetal interlude.

Then came the orange wine — Tekstur from Scions of Sinai — though I'll be honest, I barely registered my tasting notes because the seared scallops completely stole the show. Pan-fried with yuzu kosho (a punchy Japanese citrus chili seasoning) and browned butter, these were transcendent. Absolute showstoppers.

The main event was grilled lamb with an intense, deeply flavoured sauce and grilled potatoes — simple, bold, and utterly satisfying. Sometimes you don't need fireworks; you just need great produce treated with respect. A beautiful Pinot Noir from Xavier Monnot tied it all together perfectly.

We finished on a high with a coconut mousse paired with a vibrant passion fruit and mango compote, a little crunch for texture, and a lovely dessert wine from Domaine Bru-Bache. A dreamy ending.

Verdict: Another wonderful evening at Seid! This is the spot if you love comfort-forward food with gorgeous grilled flavours. It's not trying to be overly complicated — instead it leans into quality ingredients, skilled execution, and that absolutely stunning view over our beautiful city.

Pros:

  • Outstanding quality ingredients, beautifully grilled

  • Stunning panoramic views

  • Exceptional cocktail bar

Cons:

  • Tables are a touch on the small side
