Just before Christmas, we stopped by the newly opened TAO Asian Cuisine, located in Galleriet Sola. We visited on a weekday, and when we arrived there were only a couple of other guests dining in, although a steady stream of people came by to pick up their takeaway orders.
The menu is extensive and versatile, featuring everything from ramen and sushi to California rolls, fried maki rolls, sashimi, fried rice, and poke bowls. I kicked things off with an ice-cold Tsingtao beer while we studied the menu. Our choices landed on grilled eel with rice, chicken skewers, and Sakura rolls (fried maki with salmon).
The food arrived quickly, and the portions were generous and nicely presented. We initially expected the chicken skewers to be more like classic satay, but these were noticeably larger, juicy, and satisfying. Nikki was very happy with her grilled eel dish, while I thoroughly enjoyed the Sakura rolls. The menu described them as slightly spicy, but personally, I don’t consider something spicy just because it’s topped with a bit of sweet chili sauce.
Unfortunately, restaurants in Sola city center seem to come and go. I truly hope TAO Asian Cuisine manages to stick around and that locals support the place. With its broad menu and solid portions, TAO is a great option for a casual dinner out during a busy weekday.
Please note that TAO doesn’t have an Instagram account, but you can find more information on Facebook, and the full menu is available at www.taosola.com .

Large and varied menu
