Godt Brød Eiganes - the neighbourhood bakery

Is it just me, or have bakeries been absolutely everywhere these past few years? Not complaining — but I do have my regulars (yes, Sirkus Renaa, I'm looking at you). Still, a newly renovated spot is always worth a detour, and Godt Brød Eiganes has had quite the glow-up.

I'll be honest — the Stavanger city centre branch has never quite won me over. It always felt a little cramped and chaotic. Eiganes is a different story entirely. The renovation has created a generous entrance area where the bread, buns, open-faced sandwiches and pastries are beautifully displayed. But the real discovery is deeper in: a series of cosy little rooms with tables and chairs, plus a few outdoor seats for when the weather plays along.

The selection is solid — whole breads, croissants, cardamom buns, skoleboller, the works. There's also a good spread of ready-made open sandwiches, but the highlight for me is the made-to-order counter where you choose exactly what goes on top. I appreciate that kind of control. Though I'll admit I almost always end up with some version of cheese and ham, which says more about me than the menu. Hard to fault something you've essentially designed yourself. Fresh bread, good toppings, exactly as requested. The made-to-order counter is a genuinely smart touch — and dangerous for anyone with strong opinions about their smørbrød.

We settled at a table well inside the space, where light pours in through large windows. Despite a good crowd, the noise level was perfectly manageable — easy conversation, no shouting required. The whole place just feels calm and considered in a way the older branch never did. And the staff behind the counter were genuinely warm and helpful, which goes a long way. Free coffee refills are never a bad thing either.

The Cardamom bun was my coffee companion and it was soft, fragrant and properly spiced. Does it topple the Sirkus Renaa version from its throne? For me, not quite. But these things come down to personal style: some like their kardemommebolle pillowy and gentle, others want it punchy and tight.

This bakery will for sure be a neighbourhood meeting place for those looking for a place to enjoy a coffee and some snack! For a reel, feel free to check out our Instagram account!
