We started going to Sirkus Renaa right after they opened in 2011. Back then, it was called Renaa Xpress, and it was a cautious start to what it would grow to become. Now, Sirkus Renaa is a large business with branches at several locations in the Stavanger and Sandnes, and the selection and quality have increased over the years. In this post, I will focus on Sirkus Renaa at Sølvberget because I visit there weekly, and you could say that this is my regular café. This is the place I go with my elderly mother so we can have a coffee and a chat, the place where I grab a pizza before heading to the cinema, or where I drop by for a croissant in hand – and run across Arnageren with the seagulls following me.
So, what is it about Sirkus Renaa? First and foremost, they have a great selection of baked goods that are delightful. Head baker Nikolai Meling (who is the Norwegian champion in baking) and his team make wonderful sourdough bread, delicious croissants with a crisp crust, but soft on the inside, as well as many great individual cakes. Another of my favourites is the morning bun made with a kind of croissant dough – it also has a crunchy exterior and a juicy core that’s perfect with a cup of coffee.
I also think they make great Italian pizza, where you can find classic varieties like Marinara, Margherita, etc., along with good sandwiches and salads. And if you still have room for dessert, they also make gelato, and one of the favorites is sea buckthorn sorbet! If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s about time. In other words, Sirkus Renaa is like a Kinder Egg because there’s a lot to choose from, and something for every taste.
Where is your regular café in the Stavanger and Sandnes area?
Pros:
Delicious sweet pastries and good bread
Multiple branches
The pizza is also good
Cons:
It’s a café with limited opening hours
It can be hard to get a seat on Saturdays
