Jungle Vibes at Burgrilla

There’s something about a good burger that just hits the spot — and these days, Stavanger has no shortage of burger joints to choose from. Recently, I headed out with a friend to check out Burgrilla, a relatively new spot in Lura.

From the outside, Burgrilla doesn’t make the best first impression right now — with ongoing roadwork for the new bus lane and the building’s facade under renovation, it’s not exactly an eye-catcher. But step inside, and things change. The warm wooden interior and jungle-themed décor set a fun, casual tone, and with space for around 30 guests, it’s clear this isn’t just a takeaway joint.

The menu focuses squarely on burgers, with names like Amazon Adventure, Hippo Smash, and Congo Crunch. They also serve BBQ ribs and a handful of sides and desserts. Our waiter took our order at the table, and before long the food arrived.

We kicked things off with Tarzan’s Cheese Balls — crisp on the outside, gooey on the inside, with jalapeños adding just the right kick. The signature Burgrilla sauce had a subtle curry note that really worked.

I went for the Hippo Smash Burger, which looked a bit modest on the plate — the bun was a little oversized, hiding the good stuff inside, so it didn’t quite match the photos. My friend’s Congo Crunch had the same issue. But appearances aside, my Hippo Smash delivered on flavor: juicy patty, melty cheese, bacon jam, and that tasty Burgrilla sauce. My friend enjoyed his burger too, though he felt the patty leaned a bit on the rare side. I also tried the Jungle Slaw, which didn’t quite win me over — though I can’t pinpoint exactly why.

All in all, Burgrilla offers a solid burger experience with creative names, friendly service, and a few standout sides. The location isn’t ideal, and I wouldn’t make a special trip just for it — but if you’re nearby and craving a burger, it’s absolutely worth a stop.
