Pizza fritta at Monella - at Forus

If you’ve been following for a while, you might remember my visits to the Monella pizza truck and Monella Trattoria in Østre bydel. Well, the power couple behind those spots are at it again — this time with a brand-new Monella outpost at Godesetdalen 10 on Forus.
I stopped by on a chilly Wednesday night in November, and the cosy little space — seating around 15–20 people — still carries the familiar charm from when Il Forno used to run the place. As someone who grew up in the neighbourhood, it feels almost surreal to finally get proper pizza fritta in my old stomping grounds. And honestly, it’s great to see more food options popping up outside the city centre.
The menu mirrors the one in Østre bydel: a handful of starters, hearty pasta dishes, classic pizzas — and the star of the show, pizza fritta. My friend went for a carbonara, while I couldn’t resist the pizza fritta piccante. There seems to be a steady flow of takeaway orders, but it’s also a comfortable place to sit down for dinner — plus, they serve both beer and wine.
The dishes arrived quickly. My friend was a bit surprised to find crispy guanciale in the carbonara, but honestly, that’s exactly how it was served when we ate our way through Rome this summer — so I’ll call it authentic. The pizza fritta took me right back to Naples. Imagine a deep-fried calzone: it sounds heavy, but when done right, it’s anything but overwhelming. Mine came straight from the fryer — blisteringly hot, wonderfully crisp, and packed with flavour. The heat built beautifully, thanks to n'duja from Calabria, salami, a little chili, and a generous amount of mozzarella.
All in all, it’s exciting to see Monella expanding, and even more exciting to see something happening in my old neighbourhood. If you’re craving comforting pasta or a truly delicious pizza, Monella Forus is worth the detour.
