We stopped by Seid on a Friday night in March 2025 and it turned out to be on their 1 year anniversary! We were fortunfrom @jate to be there on the opening night to get an introduction - and we went back shortly after this to have a regular dinner experience. You can read about our visit to Seid in March 2024 here.

Seid is a beautiful restaurant and cocktail bar located on the 16th floor of the K8 building and it has a grand view of Stavanger. On this night, we were there for a winemaker’s dinner (due to Stavanger wine festival known as Stavanger Vinfest ) and we got to meet Daniel Niepoort from Niepoort wines from Portugal. But we started with some champagne and oyster and talked to Sigurður Rúnar Ragnarsson that runs Seid (and Ilo) together with Karl Erik Pallesen. Sigurður Rúnar Ragnarssonis also the man that organizes the Stavanger Vinfest!

We got a corner table with the amazing view of Stavanger and started with a labneh, a Middle Eastern strained yogurt dish with products from local farm Jersey meieriet. The yogurt was topped with tomatoes and greens and paired lovely with the Loureiro Giro Sol Dócil. We have had Niepoort wines before and there is no doubt that Niepoort can offer more than just great port wines! We moved on to smoked haddock served in a creamy sauce served with warmed grilled potatoes on top. I’m usually not a big fan of potatoes but these were perfectly grilled and I loved the smokey aroma of the fish. This was paired with Redoma Branco.

Next was a typical dish from Piemonte – a vitello tonnato. I enjoy this dish, but some find the mix of sliced veal and tuna based sauce a bit strange. This was served with Poeirinho that was one of my favorite wines this evening! The main was duck breast with baked celeriac, kale and a rich sauce. This is comfort food and was mouthwatering, especially with the full bodied and intense Niepoort Batuta.

With a good port wine maker in the house, we had to try a blue cheese (Fønix from Stavanger Ysteri) together with port of course! This was awesome together with some dark bread and chutney. The evening ended with a Choux pastry with pieces of fresh oranges. This combination was not quite to my liking, but I did enjoy the 2008 Colheita and 20 year old Tawny.

Thanks for a great evening Seid – and thanks to Daniel from Niepoort wines for giving us details about the wines! This is a place that we will return to for sure as it is a restaurant with good food, there is a great vibe in the place and the view is unbeatable!

Pros: - great food with amazing views of Stavanger - classy cocktail bar - focus on local products
