Great wine list at Matmagasinet

We stopped by Matmagasinet on a Saturday late afternoon in April 2025 and the place was bustling already at 4 PM! We are heading towards spring and that means that people were sitting outside to enjoy the lovely spring weather so be sure to book at table before you head there Matmagasinet has a fantastic al fresco dining area and you can read about our earlier al fresco dining experiences here.
We started with a couple of glasses of a Keller Rosè while we were waiting for the table that we had booked. It did not take long before the table was ready and could start to look at the menu and their extensive wine list (they are listed in Star Wine List). Luckily, they also have staff to back up the great wine list and we got help from Kira to choose a wine – we ended up with a The FMC from Ken Forrester Wines – a South African Chenin Blanc. I started with Matmagasinet’s version of a lobster roll and this was awesome. The lobster tail was served in a lovely soft brioche with tarragon mayo and fennel, and I could happily have had another one of these! Nikki had the steak tartare that she enjoyed but it was maybe a bit crowded with chunks of cucumber on top.
As a main I had the creamy pasta with salsiccia (Italian sausage) and a sort of kale. This was also a lovely dish, but it would have been great with even more “creaminess” – but then again it is the pasta that should be the star in a dish like this. Nikki has gnocchi with mushroom and sage, and this had a lot of potential, but the gnocchi was on the dry side this day. All in all, this is a beautiful gem with an interesting menu, amazing wine list and a great outdoor area. A place that is perfect for both lunch and dinner!
Thanks for having us Matmagasinet and thanks for the great service. We look forward to stopping by again – for more good food and great wine!
