A Saturday drop-in at the café Kaffelade

We're continuing our series "EatingOutInStavanger visits cafés in the Stavanger area" with a stop at Kaffelade. We've dropped by this café a fair few times before, in fact right after the opening in 2018, but it's never quite become a regular haunt.

I stopped by for lunch recently, this time on a Saturday late morning. I arrived a little before noon, when there were still plenty of free tables — though the place filled up fast. Kaffelade sits inside the small Galleri4 shopping centre, which means it's probably not the coziest setting in town, but there's a decent amount of seating, and the menu covers sandwiches, wraps, salads, pizza and cakes. Beer and wine are on offer too, if you fancy pairing them with your food.

We started with a cappuccino, black coffee (that you can get in three sizes) and the avocado BLT toast. The coffee and toast arrived after a few minutes and it was surprisingly good — generously loaded with avocado, bacon and salad, and served warm, which made all the difference.

I also had to have a look at the dessert selection. There's a decent range of cakes, with a range running from what looks homemade to what's more likely bought in — think biscotti cheesecake, apple cake, chocolate cake, carrot cake and more. The apple cake I picked was perfectly fine, plated with a small drizzle of caramel sauce for decoration. Next time I will aim for a cake that looks more homemade. There are plenty left in the dessert counter to work through on a future visit.

Kaffelade is clearly a solid option if you want a quick lunch, a cup of coffee, and maybe a slice of cake for dessert. If you enjoy having lunch at places like Ostehuset, Godt Brød , Selma and similar spots, Kaffelade is well worth adding to the list too.
