Ostehuset at Polka - an old favourite quietly returns to the city centre

We used to be regulars at Ostehuset back when they had a branch in Stavanger city centre. These days they're only in Stavanger Øst, which means far fewer visits than we'd like. But Ostehuset has quietly made its way back to the centre — in a slightly unusual way. They have teamed up with Polka Grill og Spiseri and until 4pm on weekdays and Saturdays, you can now get Ostehuset's products at Polka! I stopped by recently — Polka sits on the second floor of Torgterrassen, right in the heart of Stavanger. They've set up a proper little bread cart stocked with Ostehuset's loaves, and the menu also runs to open sandwiches, croissants, cinnamon buns, and a handful of light dishes like Caesar salad and quiche, plus a solid cake selection. You can sit inside Polka itself, or grab one of the outdoor tables in the Torgterrassen atrium — just be ready for a bit of foot traffic passing through, since Starbucks sits right next door.
I ordered a Club Sandwich and admittedly, it looked a little underwhelming when it arrived  but looks can deceive, because this was genuinely good. The bread was fresh, the filling generous with layers of chicken, lettuce, aioli and more. A small but appreciated bonus: free coffee refills throughout.
No time for dessert on this visit, but I clocked raw food cake, cheesecake and tiramisu on the menu — reason enough to justify a return trip.
All in all, this is a great spot to duck into for a quick lunch. The sandwiches are pre-made, so the food lands on your table fast. On a good day, it looks like you can also sit out on a small terrace with a direct view over the square. Welcome back to the city centre, Ostehuset!
